Meet The Band
Lead Guitar and Vocals
Adrian Tilley
Has been in bands various for too many years as guitarist, jazz and blues drummer, jazz singer, bass player…all to a dreadful standard. About to tackle the cello and the spinarette in hope. Inspired by seeing live many of the greats: Sam Cooke, Little Richard, Chubby Checker (!), John Lee Hooker, Mayall, Clapton, J S Bach, Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Alicia Keys…the list goes on. Now happy in the best blues and soul outfit ever! Stardom beckons at last, deservedly.
Alto Sax and Vocals
Lizzy Wayne
Started (musical) life as a flautist, then onto Alto Sax, gigging regularly in function bands and sax ensembles, was in at the beginning of TNT and one day said 'can I try vocals'. Out of her diminutive frame blossomed a powerful 'not-to-be-messed-with' vocalist who now shares lead vocals with Adrian. When not singing, punches above her weight on sax in the horn section. Great moves too.
Drums
Eddie Kingdom
Degree in Jazz drumming led straight into a full time career as a farm labourer. 20 years on, plays in a "pirate rock" band, has his own embryonic jazz quintet, key member of the rhythm section in TNT, and mows lawns for a living.
Tenor Sax and Arranger
Nigel Wayne
After a lapse of 20 years from school level violin and piano, discovered the sax and fell in love. Many years of playing in soul and function bands, alumnus (along with Eddie and Adrian) of Loire Jazz Summer School, and currently playing in TNT (first love) a 5 piece rock/pop band, a jazz quintet, a full 20+ piece big band, and a couple of duos & trios, Nigel barely has time for the recording studio sessions he gets requested for. Oh, and is responsible for pretty much all the band's musical arrangements. (yep, its all his fault!)
Trumpet
Jo Baker-Teixeira
Degree in music & trumpet performance from Manchester, several years as musical director on cruise liners, past1st trumpet in Lisbon Philharmonic Orchestra, now head of music at Okehampton College, and the go to trumpet & flugelhorn player for Southwest, we consider ourselves very fortunate that she is our brass player extra-ordinaire. Oh and she's one of the funniest people going, so we'd keep her even if her lips fell off!
Tenor Sax
Cheryl Cole
Several sax qualifications under her belt, holds the 2nd Tenor seat in a full big band, plays also in several jazz & function bands on flute and keyboard as well as tenor sax. Lovely bouncy character which probably comes from her other passion of trampolining.
Bass
Sam Cooper
Sam's musical career started very early in life as a big band keyboard player currently playing keys in a 5 piece 40's to 90's rock & pop band, also plays fiddle par excellence in folk and ceilidh bands, noteworthy guitarist too. Music runs through his bones. Which is why he's an agricultural engineer for a living! The other key member of the rhythm section for TNT.
Trumpet
Ciaran
The baby of the band. Final year student at Oke College, we've taken him on as an apprentice only to find he knows more than we do! Understudty/dep for Jo, heading for a glittering career in music, so we're including him in as many gigs as we can get hold of him for, until he strikes out into the big wide world.
